Skye Drone

The drone technology keeps evolving rapidly, but with it comes the growing attention on issues of how to protect people and property from drones that lose control and fall to the ground. A Swiss company, Aerotain, is seeking inspiration from blimps on how to create modern drones using an inflated balloon just like Skye Drone.

Drones under the control of an experienced operator have the potential to provide a unique angle to any event. Drones are known to be beneficial, but their activities in the sky also make them essentially dangerous, particularly if their flight is disrupted and they come crashing to the ground. Many companies have been making efforts to provide ways to protect people from falling drones—and this time, a possible solution has come to light.

A new countermeasure for drones will include auto-hovering features that can stabilize a falling drone and even a mini-parachute that will slow down a drone during a fall. Aerotain’s inflatable drone concept is one of the unique ideas being proposed for safe operations of drones in crowded areas.

Skye Drone: Uses and Features

The company is producing a Skye drone that comprises of an inflatable balloon filled with helium to help the device stay aloft. The assisted lift allows the drone to fly for more than two hours, overshadowing most modern drones with significantly shorter flight times.

The new device can be customized and inflated into different sizes, with the largest version measuring 3 meters in diameter. The supersized, blimp-style drone is attention-grabbing, making it perfect for companies that might want to advertise their brand on the sides of the UAV. The Skye also has the capacity to carry up to 4 pounds of broadcast-quality camera equipment that can be used to stream photos and videos to a remote operator.

Since the drone is made with balloon, it has soft platform that will only cause minor injury if an error occurs in its flight, causing it to collide with people who are on the ground. Also, it is safe to touch since its propulsion system is enclosed within the unit. This device has significant advantages over existing quadcopters that are made of hard plastic and have external blades capable of inflicting damage on people and animals.

With the unique selling point of guaranteeing security and safety to people, Aerotain is marketing its drone to event organizers looking for a safe alternative to conventional drones for aerial photography. The company claims its technology is the perfect device for large gatherings such as concerts and sporting events where the Skye drone’s safety features are paramount and its uniqueness will attract the attention of brand marketers who wish to advertise their products.

Other smaller versions of the Skye drone can also be used in compact public spaces, such as the interior of a building, where the possibility of a collision with people and objects is high. Aerotain is heavily promoting its solution, recently showcasing its Skye drone at the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
